Politicians, kinky sex and spendaholics...
As we were out last night having excellent sushi at Shogun for the better half's birthday I haven't seen the debate yet although I did hear something lay on the radio about David Cameron attacking Gordon Brown about their misleading leaflets. Naughty Gordon! This is why we don't take politicians seriously - they say whatver they want.
In my column in this week's Love it! Magazine I advise a woman whose boyfriend wants kinky sex. Remember there's always a compromise between setting your boundaries and doing a little bit of sex-perimentation.
Seeing the report about Fergie’s debts in the papers today made me think about Spendaholics. In my work I've met many people who’ve run into trouble with money - and being a spendaholic isn't a laughing matter. Sadly I'm sure plenty of people identify with her troubles!
I find there are common threads and themes that run through the personalities and lives of spendaholics even if each story is unique in its details. Most spendaholics get a buzz from the shopping, followed by a crash, followed by the urge to spend again. This becomes a very difficult cycle they find hard to fight. They find emotional intimacy difficult and are often highly anxious people with a facade of friendliness and confidence. They're often plagued with mood swings and can have relatively short live highs often with underlying depression.
Often they become slightly deluded about whether or not their financial ruin will get found out and whether they'll be pursued to pay back what they owe - such issues are squashed and denied and put to the back of their mind.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: if you recognise yourself in this then don't ignore those letters giving you last warnings about what you owe. Ring up every company you owe money to and organise a payment plan now! Visit your local citizens advice bureau and get their advice too.
Today I am revisiting some of my favourite music from the last two years - listening to Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters. Can’t beat these rockers!
Tonight meeting up with an old friend and her boyfriend at a lovely little place where you can get a glass of champagne at a reasonable price and little dishes that you can share. It'll be a late celebration for my better half’s birthday. Let the celebrations continue! Enjoy your Friday, Pam X
