X Factor and knowing when to let go...
Just squeezed in a spontaneous interview with the phenomenal Vanessa Feltz on her BBC London radio show. I always love speaking to her as she's smart and on the ball and thinks of every angle. It was all about Stephen Fry's comments about women and sex - a bit more on him further down.
But first has the X Factor become a joke? I wonder if Simon Cowell’s thinking that, because surely he's mystified that Wagner stayed in. Got to hand it to the Wagner voters orchestrating a successful campaign to keep him there. Sad to see Belle Amie go - they were growing in confidence and vocals.
Back to Stephen Fry - he's got it in the neck for his comments that some women only have sex to stay in a relationship or to keep it going - and in one passage of my new book Steamy Sex (out end of November) I covered this. Yup, people may wonder why a gay man would comment on female sexuality but it doesn't mean he hasn't spoken to female friends who admit to doing this. Some women have confided this very thing to me - it's all covered in the book.
Had amazing, non-traditional Sunday lunch at friends’ yesterday - wish I could cook like they do. It was Mexican themed and started with his famous black bean soup and then we had chicken, chilli and cheese quesadillas. I LURVE Mexican - and it's one thing I can do pretty well but without the flair of these friends.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: OK so I used to be hard on myself over my cooking - I once re-tried and re-tried a recipe a friend gave me, and had to give up.
Long ago I decided there's no point in beating your head against a tree when things are never really going to change.
And it makes me think about how many people confide in me that they keep trying - and keep trying - and keep trying all over again - something because they feel they have something to prove. You've got to let it go, as I have about competing with my friends over dinner party skills. They win hands down!
All we need to prove as human beings is that we care for our nearest and dearest, spread a Little happiness and love around - that's what counts.
Yeah sure, give things a go but know when to give up and then be a good friend, partner, parent, etc. That's the stuff that makes life go round.
Got to keep an eye on what happens in the American mid-term elections - some crazy right wingers in the Tea Party may come dangerously close to winning too much ground. Almost impossible to believe these people are taken seriously. If they make headway it's not going to be a good thing for the rest of the world!
Enjoy your Monday, Pam X
