When he can't handle her success, loads of comedy....
Completely rewarding doing the agony slot on BBC radio Eastern regions last night with Sue....covered man issue from breaking up to bereavement in lots of depth.
So I'm heading up to the Edinburgh Festival – woot - but in the meantime my weekly blog on iVillage.co.uk will go live later today. This week it's about a woman's boyfriend who was threatened by her success.
This is a very touchy subject for some couples - most men are absolute you find about their girlfriends or wives having more success. In fact a recent survey showed that about 70% of men were fine with it. But that leaves nearly a third of men that might feel undermined.
TODAY’S TIP: if your partner’s reacted badly to you being more successful ultimately he has to be supportive of you ... but in the meantime be tactful around him.
Don't keep reminding him of all your successes. Don't talk about the praise you get it work or the latest project you ‘aced’. Look for that reflected glory - where you can bleat on about your successes and people are happy for you - from your parents, friends, anyone but him.
Encourage him to feel confident for the good things about his personality.
Definitely make sure your relationship doesn't revolve around talking about careers...share other things!
These things can be worked through with care and attention.
Will be posting occasional tips and messages this week - but have a lovely week, take care of yourself, Pam X p.s. as I won't be doing a "your e-mail of the week" this week I'll do two next week - so do get your e-mails in, cheers!
