Manipulation and hype...
If you're interested in the art of the chat-up line check out the article I've just posted on my homepage at "hot off the press".
Oh gawd, what happened to the lovely Aidan Grimshaw on the X Factor this weekend?? He was one of my favourites but his nerves have overtaken his ability to focus.
And as for Diva Fever getting booted out – boo, they were such fun. Would rather Wagner had gone...come on, he looks like a man you'd meet at a swingers party. And NO, I don't go to those but I've had to interview plenty of swingers for radio and TV shows etc.
But call me cynical - there have been so many stories in the press - like Matt and Katie having a fling - I feel we've entered some sort of Twilight zone where the X Factor’s dictating everything we talk about. It all seems so manufactured - speaking of which they keep saying that Cher is so 'now' - what, like Lady Sovereign was doing seven years ago?! Come on, she's so overhyped for her ability that's as tiny as her frame.
Not watching Strictly Come Dancing - not enough time for two big reality shows - if I was watching Strictly I'd definitely be a Scott Maslen fan. Also my hat goes off to the "bus-pass beauties" - Felicity, Anne, and Pamela - all retirement age but a fab example to younger women everywhere. I say: You Go Girls, Breakdown That Age Barrier for Younger Women!
Lovin’ Spooks series 9. Gripping stuff and the only TV prog I can think of that bumps off its lead characters. Just please don't bump off the gorgeous Lucas North!
TODAY’S THOUGHT: thinking about the unpredictability of Spooks makes me think of some ‘date coaching’ I did this week… a little unpredictability can go a long way.
As I always say, it isn't about playing games but it's about being just a little bit out of reach. Bare your heart and soul on the first date - and expect to move in with them after one week and, I'm sorry, but you simply desperate.
Be a little bit unpredictable and not always around and you become 10 times more desirable.
Yay, think it's today I can get my hands on the Kings of Leon, Come Around Sundown - know I'm going to love the album.
Almost done with Jonathan Franzen's Freedom - if you want to get into the mindset of dysfunctional individuals and families it's definitely the book for you.
Have so many books lined up on my lovely Kindle including Sister (Rosamund Lurton), Imperium and Lustrum (these two by Robert Harris - absolutely loved Pompeii - read about six years ago).
On an important note with Obama being very unpopular right now all the crazies are coming out to run for president as people start gearing up for the presidential campaign onslaught. Yup, I know it seems like we were here only yesterday, but Americans start their campaigns very early.
Have a happy Monday, Pam X
