Those celebs are at it again...
Will be glued to the box tonight as Celebrity Big Brother kicks off – ye gads, what have they got in store for us in this last-ever series? Judging by the celebs and wannabes entering the bearpit I'd guess there'll be fireworks. My bet for ‘Queen of the house’ will be Stephanie Beacham - still glam despite being in her 60s. And I'm sure she knows a thing or two about human nature by this point.
Continued our DVD-fest with friends last night and do I have a recommendation for you: The Hurt Locker - absolutely brilliant, gripping and stomach churning. Filmed almost like reportage in its feel - believe me, you feel like you're right there with the bomb disposal experts in Iraq.
We also watched An Education - though slow-moving was still interesting and I thought actress Carey Mulligan was great in her portrayal of an A-level student being swept off her feet by an older man of dubious means in the very early, still judgemental 60s.
Next on the list was Invictus - as you know I'm a Matt Damon fan and he redeemed himself in this role (after my disappointment in him in The Informant) as the South African Rugby captain when Nelson Mandela was first president - believable and sympathetic. But Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela was simply superb. More top marks for Clint Eastwood as director - is that man getting more creative as he nears 80?
TODAY’S THOUGHT: Don't fool yourself that people older than you have nothing to offer. Some of the wisest words I've ever heard have come from those older and better than I am! The old adage 'respect thy elders' is true! You think someone 10, 20, 30 years older than you doesn't know more than you? You're wrong - the themes of life are played out in all of our lives no matter what age - just look at how the great human themes like love, desire, hatred, jealousy, etc., have been played out in Greek mythology, to Shakespearean drama, right through to our modern age. These themes that affect our lives don't change over time and they don't change within a life. You simply gain more awareness as you get older about how these themes play out in people's lives. This awareness hopefully gives you more wisdom.
Now, there's gorgeous sunshine outside - time to grab Hubby for a jog. Lots of love, Pam X
