A friend in need...
Am I the only person who didn't like the film Nine? We watched it with the gang last night and I thought Daniel Day Lewis (who I regard as one of our finest actors) had a bad script to work with but also a bad Italian accent! He sounded Austrian or German most of the time. Although wall-to-wall with beautiful actresses from Nicole Kidman to Penelope Cruz - this story was limp and the music was weak. I expect a "musical" to have tunes you can come away with singing - and at least a big finale number - there weren't any in Nine.
But then we watched Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' roll about Ian Dury which at least told the story of his difficult childhood woven into his eccentric life as a singer and musician. Not always pleasant viewing but still a vibrant and idiosyncratic film with a brilliant performance from Andy Serkis as Ian.
Yes I know, you're going to think I'm a film fanatics (which I am) - but there is more to life. Like talking on the phone to a friend that’s having a very bad time recently. Everything that could happen, has happened to them.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: you know the saying "a friend in need…" - well, we are all in need at some point in our lives. And if you can’t lean on your friends at that point, then that's a terrible place to be. What I hate is when a friend ‘apologises’ for taking up my time - makes me (and others who are told this) feel like we're not being great friends in the first place if someone has to apologise! But I guess a lot of people apologise when they've been banging on - or even crying -- down the phone to a friend. It's a pretty natural human thing to do - but completely unnecessary to say sorry to a friend!
Speaking of friends, looking forward to dinner at the Century with an old pal tonight. You know my feeling about Monday night's - great to get together with friends!
Have a happy Monday, Pam X p.s. Many of Horror by Biffy Clyro is my big ballad of the moment - amazing turned up super loud!!
