Feeling repulsed and ecstatic by different things...
Starting off with a rant today:
I was repulsed by the story in today's press about the mother who updated on twitter that her son was dying after falling into a swimming pool. I'm all for twittering but how can a mother not cradle her child in those last precious moments or help the emergency services in any way they needed, or simply hold his hand - whatever -just BE with him as he died - with him being 100% of her focus.
This is one of the worst cases of neglectful parenting I've heard of recently. It all seems so innocent to people who are overly caught up with technology but it's not always simple and this very sad story shows the dark side of where technology can take you - that it's more important to update your friends then being with your young son in his dying moments. The thing is that twitter and social networking are amazing things but not to some people who become controlled by it. The excuse that she wanted the support of her twitter community is ridiculous and won't wash with me. What support are tons of tiny tweets coming through when your attention should be elsewhere? I'm disgusted! Anyone in that situation should leave their tweeting to one side.
Now for an ecstatic note - I’m over the moon that my precious niece just had a baby girl and so I've become a great auntie! Has made the Christmas season feel so much more special - only wish we were going to be in sunny California to celebrate with her and that side of my family.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: I hope something touches you and brings a special feeling into your life in the coming weeks. It's easy to let the stresses and strains close your eyes to the good things in your life.
Had some fabulous spicy tuna hand rolls in the Japanese restaurant above the Korean shop behind Center Point. Don't know its name but it's always full of visiting Japanese - defo a good sign. Then it was onto a little theatre near Mornington Crescent for a production by the Tower Theatre group. Thought it was a great little production of a Terry Pratchett story - just this story wasn't my usual cup of tea - but you couldn't fault the cast with some fab performances.
Yikes - there's been a big response to my sex Q and A on the Kiss radio network so I'm going to answer some of the questions today and hopefully they'll go live soon. This is continuing the sexual health campaign -Worth Talking About - with the DoH and Department for Children, Schools and Family.
Must run, have loads to do and then meeting a dear friend (a dear friend despite being an executive in the TV industry and working huge, long hours - some friends you don't have to see a lot to still know they count as one of your best friends) for dinner tonight in South Kensington - we're choosing a place that has the most fabulous little salads - you can share with each other.
Lots of love, Pam X
