Jealous minds and call girls...
If you've got a problem with jealousy I wrote a piece about it with a little quiz in today's Express newspaper. Check it out if you're struggling with it or have a jealous partner. It's no fun - I once had a horribly jealous partner and it made my life a misery.
Just back from a conference in France and I see that a Dr Brooke Magnanti has outed herself as the ‘Belle de Jour’ blogger. Her blog may have amused various readers and she's made a shed-load of money but it also seems like she's carved a path of misery in others' lives. I feel for the men who have been romantically involved with her. And I also feel for the dozens of sex workers I've met over the years in TV and radio green rooms and various work settings who have lived a life of abject misery and degradation. Brooke’s blog would bear no relation at all to their shabby, lonely and dangerous lives. I fear that some vulnerable and naive young women will think this might be a way to pay off debt or earn some quick cash.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: don't buy into any media myths - like this one that somehow being an escort is exciting or sexy or going to lead to a book deal! There are so many damaging media myths that affect women profoundly when it comes to things like their feelings of self-worth, attractiveness and body image so we don't need to add any more.
My brief travels took me to the sex conference in France where it was great to meet up with the GP Dr Dawn Harper and therapist Paula Hall - both of whom I've crossed paths with but never had the chance of hanging out with. Over dinner we enjoyed some sometimes professional but also quite girly chat and gossip with our hosts Sarah and Bridget. And I got to hear three speakers presenting on HSDD - hypo-sexual desire disorder. One day I'll have to write you some tips specifically for if your desire is flagging - although if you check out the "spectacular sex" part of my site some of articles feature tips that might just appeal!
Tomorrow’s my Tuesday morning radio slot at 11 AM on Dublin News talk with Tom Dunne - why not join us for a listen on the Net? Keep happy, Pam x p.s. Eek- can't believe Jedward are still in! This is crazy!
