His best friend's girlfriend...
It's Tuesday so after 11 a.m. I'll be doing my weekly ‘agony’ radio slot on Dublin newstalk - the producer tells me we've got some good dilemmas to get through. One being from a man who stole his best friend's girlfriend…he wonders if his ex-friend will ever be friends again.
Two things spring to my mind - it's like life imitating art - his story is just like The Cars’ ‘ye olde’ track My Best Friend's Girlfriend - how old is that tune?
Secondly, the saying "with friends like these" springs to mind. His ex-friend is going to be furious, hurt, bitter, betrayed, etc.
How would he feel if that happened to him?? Shouldn't the woman concerned have broken up with her boyfriend (this guy's friend) first - then waited a bit before these two got together?
Increasingly I find people want instant gratification in cases like this. They say things like they can’t control their emotions - well if we can't control our emotions then we're no better than an angry dog in the road!
TODAY’S THOUGHT: What I'd say to this guy - or if you're in this position - if your friend's still speaking to you (a minor miracle in my book) then you should keep bending over backwards and apologising. Also don't rub his nose in the fact you're seeing his ex-girlfriend plus be the best possible friend that you can to make up for what you've done.
And if they're not speaking to you (this wouldn't surprise me) let them know you're there if they ever want to try getting the friendship back on track. I wouldn't hold my breath!
In today's Daily Express newspaper a number of people were asked whether they were X Factor or Strictly fans - I think you know what I said!
Liking the track ‘Six Wolves’ by Let's Buy Happiness - although I think I flagged them up to you before - check them out.
Happy Tuesday, Pam X
