Bbqs, celebs being silly, the trouble with families, music and more...
It's grey out but I'm a happy bunny having one of my three older brothers here for five days – we only get to see him twice a year and yesterday we had a barbecue for his birthday with one of my oldest friends and her husband and family. There's nothing like family to make me happy! The rain stopped at about 4.00 so we fired up the barby - just got the food cooked before it started raining again so we ate inside.
We had wonderful prawn skewers if I say so myself: marinated uncooked Jumbo prawns, cherry tomatoes, little mushrooms, and red peppers in teriyaki, fresh grated ginger, fresh garlic, coriander, red chilli and lime. Tasty!
We also had slim-cut lamb chops marinated in garlic, Mediterranean herbs, lemon juice, red wine, and my secret ingredient… and because it’s secret I can’t tell you!
Gaawwddd.. another young celebrity couple bites the dust with Charlotte Church and rugby playing Gavin Henson evidently splitting up. Silly, silly people! They've probably fallen victim to that whole thing about ‘the grass is greener’ and ‘they'll get something better’. And that they need more attention than they’re getting -it's so often about me, me, me! I feel sorry for their two children.
We Will Rock You was so much fun on Friday night! And if you go on the expecting fan then that's what you get. The music of Queen, the singing, and the musical references and jokes were fab.
A fellow agony aunt and friend of mine who has an agony column in The Mail on Sunday YOU magazine very kindly mentioned my new book How to be a Happy Human in her column today when answering a woman's question about struggles with her ageing mother. Definitely you should check out her column every Sunday!
TODAY’S THOUGHT: but families can cause a lot of heartache and there are perennial themes that affect most families including envy, rivalry and selfishness. You can see where Shakespeare got a lot of his ideas from!
We all have disagreements with family members but if you try and see the best in each other - and try and let bygones be bygones, draw a line under the heartache of the past, and remember that your family is always going to be there - it's worth making the effort and giving to them.
Loving Kele’s Tenderoni (Kele of Bloc party) -have a listen if you like dance-style music with a difference.
It's tragic about lib-dem economic dynamo David Laws ripping off us - the tax payers - of something like £40,000 that he's now going to pay back. There he looked set to be the saviour when it comes to our massive deficit and it turns out that at a personal level there’s something suspect about his character and motives. What a letdown!
Have a great Sunday, Pam X
