From politics to personalities...
I don't know about you, but I'm still not sure who I'm going to vote for in this election. And that's not like me - I usually know exactly who I'm going to vote for. The problem is I think all three candidates are mediocre - not one stands out as an inspiring leader. I can’t believe in the whole UK there's not one dynamic politician who could lead us out of the recession and through the maze of problems that we face in our world today.
On the lighter side, I'm finding it hard to get my head around Adrian Chiles presenting GMTV in the near future. Being a fan of The One Show he has a place in my heart in the early evenings. And I've always loved the chemistry between him and Christine. Their personalities melded together fantastically. Sometimes it's hard to put a finger on why the chemistry mixes well between two people on screen. But there's something in his 'knowing', laid-back quality and worked with her lively, sparkly side. It'll be interesting to see who he gets paired with on the GM sofa.
Just reading in the Sunday papers that Patsy Kensit is going to write a tell-all autobiography. Goodness, I think she needs to do it in three volumes - what a life - the marriages, the men, the divorces - couldn't make it up for a soap-opera! But reality is often stranger than fiction, as the saying goes.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: is your life a bit like a soap opera? At times mine has been - but I much prefer the calmer moments to the rollercoaster rides I've been on. What's important is to learn ‘something’ when it all goes pear shaped, to learn about yourself from the dramas and traumas. And what I've learned most about myself is that calm waters suit me best.
After Saturday was spent cleaning up the garden furniture and getting the barbecue ready (don't all these things get filthy-dirty over the winter??) we met up with some old friends at Sonny’s. This is a restaurant in South West London which has been serving the same fab food for years. There were three birthday party groups there last night and every 15 minutes we heard a slightly drunken rendition of happy birthday. We all felt like we were part of the party because everyone in the restaurant was clapping.
Now I'm off to marinate chicken for our barbecue tonight - good pals are coming over. That is if the drizzle outside my window stops because otherwise it's going to be baked in the oven. I have a number of friends running for charities in the London marathon and I hope they manage the tricky weather conditions - high pollen count, drizzle, and high temperatures - not a good mix for long-distance run!
For the marinade I'm using fresh thyme and rosemary out of our garden, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and a couple secret ingredients. As usual I hope I won't poison my guess!
Enjoy your Sunday, Pam X
