Worried parents and comfort eating...
It's Thursday so I've chosen one of your e-mails [thanks to everyone] and posted under "your e-mail of the week"... it's from Alex a father who's worried about his 20-year-old son never having had a relationship. If this resonates with your family in any way and do check it out.
There was an interesting report out about women's snacking because of boredom - I tweeted something about this yesterday - and the whole issue of ‘food and feelings’ has such a profound effect on eating behaviours.
Many people fail to realize that it's not just intense emotions like anger [e.g., having an angry row with your partner] that sends you running for the biscuit tin. Even far less extreme emotions like boredom can lead to negative eating behaviours.
But many of the women I meet have been surprised when they keep a food diary about how frequently things like boredom led to eating - it wasn't classic comfort eating but it certainly wasn't necessary eating either.
TODAY’S TIP: So if your comfort eating and you think it might be boredom then look at how you can change your work or the things you do outside of work to build more fun and excitement in.
Keep a food diary for a week and write down what you were thinking or feeling just before you snacked. Look at the end of the week and see if there's any pattern to your snacking. Maybe then you can sort out what's at the heart of your comfort eating.
Good luck, Pamx
