My amazing 'adopted' gran...
Squeezed between meetings today I jumped on a train to sunny Tunbridge Wells where I took my adopted ‘gran’ out for lunch at a fab place called the Hotel du Vin. She's a phenomenal woman I've known since I was about 19 and I adopted her (well not officially) as my gran. She's just turned 91 but has more life and soul in her than the average 30 year old - she was out at Ronnie Scott's in London only last week enjoying Georgie Fame. Now I can't claim to know his music, but know his name, as he was before my time - but I do know that you don't usualy get 91 years olds in a jazz club in Soho! We enjoyed some lovely wine and food with a couple of our other pals.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: This brings me to the fact my 'gran' has family, friends, and 'adopted' daughters and grand daughters like me, but I wonder if there's anyone near you who doesn't have family and could do with a little company? I fear there are people who need, literally, people - and a little time and company. Check out voluntary services in your area or simply look in on that neighbour who may need a bit of your time.
A word of warning - if you love James McAvoy (as I do) but don't want to sit through a ponderous film then don't see The Last Station when it comes out as I did last night at a screening. He and the rest of the cast were excellent but talk about a film with no dramatic tension until the last 10 minutes and you couldn't even say it was worth the wait because it was beautifully shot - because actually it wasn't that beautifully shot. If you're a diehard fan of his or Helen Mirren who played Countess Tolstoy then you might want to give it a shot but don't do it after a long day - pulling teeth out would be more fun in that case.
Lucky me, the plumber who's been working at my home today while I was in Tunbridge Wells still hasn't finished fixing our broken shower - three weeks now and they can’t seem to get the right parts!
Have a fab Friday night, it's Halloween tomorrow, time to get into my naughty devil gear, stay happy, Pam X
