Lovable people to lost and lovable parents...
Are you concerned that someone you love has an eating disorder? Or maybe you have one yourself? Today on my iVillage.co.uk blog I answer one man's heartfelt question about his girlfriend.
Don't give up hope in the face of an eating disorder - that can seem complicated and frightening - many people successfully overcome or at least manage them. And in my experience some of the most ‘lovable’ people end up with eating disorders because for some reason they find themselves unlovable.
Today would be my late father's birthday - still miss him terribly and think of him every day. I count myself so lucky having had him as a father and will celebrate many wonderful memories of him - he was a complete health fanatic long before people knew about healthy living. When I was a young girl we had things like seaweed, nuts and pulses, cranberries, blueberries and all sorts of dried fruits - lashings of garlic - no butter allowed in the house but definitely olive oil. My friends couldn't believe some of the crazy things in our cupboards.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: I find a fantastic way to celebrate is to send around a big group family e-mail full of anecdotes of our father. Just because someone has passed doesn't mean they're forgotten. I feel sad that some people have lost the thread celebrating previous generations. But such things help to hold us together.
It's not about "living in the past" it's about recognising how the past has influenced your present. That yesterday is part of your today.
I hope you treasure memories of a lost parent or a loved one.
Happy to hear that Dizzy Rascal is back on the Mercury prize list along with many greats like The XX - it's a good year for music!
Enjoy the sunshine while it's back, love, Pam X
