Some moments are private, those with bipolar, the baby season...
I'm always one for revealing the difficult side of life but from what I read about the BBC filming a man taking his own life at the Dignitas clinic it fills me with sadness. Is this a desperately sad act we need to see? Isn't death an incredibly private moment only shared with your absolute nearest and dearest?
Instead of being an enlightening piece of filming, with the best of intentions, of this possibly be some sort of misguided ratings-grabbing attempt? I sincerely hope not but sadly this brings out the cynic in me.
As more is revealed about Catherine Zeta Jones battle with mental illness it now explains that bizarre speech she made last year at an awards ceremony where she pointed to Michael Douglas who was sitting in the audience and said how she was ‘sleeping with that movie star’.
The people I've known with bipolar tend to come out with some fairly outrageous stuff - sometimes even when they're on medication. It's as if they say the things other people are thinking but wouldn't dare to say. And sometimes they come out with exciting ideas that sound like potential winners.
It's easy to get caught up in a friend's enthusiasm when they're in the early stages of a "high". But in the later stages of wild schemes become very destructive. Thank goodness Catherine's got help - and I hope if you're struggling that you get help too.
It seems to be the baby season - congrats to the gorgeous Holly Willoughby on her daughter’s early arrival - and two of my friends are about to drop...so exciting!
TODAY’S THOUGHT: There's nothing like the arrival of a little bundle of joy but one thing I've learnt as a parent that even as your children grow up you never stop worrying about them. There's a lot of heartache and worry raising children but most of all the happiness far, far outweighs any stress!
If you're being tested as a parent at the moment, hang in there, no matter how big the problem you can sort it out.
Thinking of family, it's Friday - hope you're going to see loved ones and have fun! I'm skiving off from work for a couple hours at lunchtime today to go have a celebration lunch with a very special family member.
Then back to my desk before the weekend starts... yay, I'm not cooking this weekend - going to a barbecue at friends Saturday evening - the husband happens to be a meat fanatic and goes to the Smithfield market at the crack of dawn to get the best beef - so we'll have something tasty.
And then out to a Sunday lunch where a friend is going to cook some Thai curry - looking forward to it, love anything spicy.
Have just finished re-reading William Boyd's beautiful Any Human Heart ... was sorely disappointed in the Channel 4 TV adaptation and it made me wonder if I'd remembered the book as better than it was. Nope, I'd remembered correctly - it's a brilliant and moving story - well worth a read if the series didn't put you off.
Have a lovely weekend, Pam x
