Doing Daybreak, EastEnders cringe worthy fan, when he goes out without you....
OMG, up at 430 to wash hair for Daybreak...I'm a "night owl" so that was tough! I chatted about what couples argue about most with Christine and Dan...what were three of the key themes? No surprises they were money arguments, household chores, and mother-in-law's (and other relations) overstepping the mark.
On the way out I bumped into EastEnders actress Shona McGarty who plays Whitney - such a fan and couldn't resist telling her how much I love what she's doing. Eek, cringe worthy! I hate it when I do those things - poor girl having some random Daybreak guest doing the "fan thing".
I think I recommended the Fixers recently but if I didn't definitely check them out - love Crystals - want to go clubbing when I hear that track!
I've just posted a new "your e-mail of the week" - it's short and sweet and from Sue about her husband going out with his friends. Check it out if you've got this issue going on – select the "gold star" on my homepage.
TODAY’S TIP: Sue's e-mail makes me think about ‘balance’ in relationships. If you feel your relationship is imbalanced - like your partner seems to have more power than you do over what you to do with your money, leisure time, whose families you see, etc. - then you need to redress the balance.
The very best starting point is to start setting small boundaries - for example, the next time they say they're going to spend your joint money on a new television - and you'd rather spend it on new curtains - tell your partner you need to discuss it. That might surprise them!
Then sit down and suggest looking at who chose the last few purchases - undoubtedly them if they've been taking the power in the relationship.
Agree a compromise like this time you get your way - next time they'll get to say how you spend any excess cash.
Do this every day - any time they try to dictate something, stop them in their tracks, asked them to sit down and discuss it, and show the new you that wants to be an equal partner.
You can do it! Happy Thursday, Pam X
