Allergic bumps, but face the world...
The Guildhall looked beautiful decorated for the Eve charity ball last night. Just Christmassy enough but the decor didn't detract from the wonderful 15th century building.
The fund-raising events were run by Gail Porter. I've always admired Gail for the sheer fortitude she’s shown since losing her hair and proudly being ‘out and bald’.
My Aussie girlfriend looked stunning in a floor length, peach satin, 40s style dress - whereas I had to cake on the make-up to cover a terrible outbreak of allergic bumps on my cheeks from the make-up in the video recording session I did earlier in the day for the DoH. These video recordings will go online for the Worth Talking About sexual health campaign. I will keep banging on about that until people start protecting themselves!
Although filming went fairly well (the cameraman Alan was a star as I stumbled over some of my script) my skin didn't like something in the make-up artist’s bag of tricks. Yikes, have two Christmas things to go to tonight and I don't think there's a big enough concealer in London that can cover this reaction!
TODAY’S THOUGHT: we all have ‘bad hair days’, and like last night where I felt my skin looked horrible, you still have to go out and face the world. In some of the body image research I did a few years ago we found that a large proportion of women stay home, on average, one day a month because they're feeling ugly or fat - don't do that to yourself - get out and live!
No surprises about the research out today showing that first borns put themselves first - true in my family although my eldest is also a kind-hearted, sensitive and loving person - but definitely can get wrapped up in their own world. Actually that ability to put blinkers on has served them well and kept them focused in their career. As a last born I sometimes wish I had that focus!
Very annoyed as a pal recommended seeing Fiona Shaw at the National and when I went online to book, it had ended two days ago! She is a phenomenon and disappointed to miss her performance. The same pal informed me that the Loose Women on ITV had been discussing my article on 'meddling mother's' last week - evidently it generated quite a debate - I love those those loose ladies!
Take care and keep calm as Christmas approaches, Pam x
