Dilemmas, Brits, motherhood...
Looking forward to my weekly slot on the Tom Dunne show after 11 AM. I find this radio slot so rewarding as we get such a wide range of dilemmas. The producer’s told me that today - amongst other dilemmas - we’re going to discuss a man who is depressed after losing his job and a wife who has lost a stone and a half and her personality has changed as much as her body shape.
It's a fantastic thing to look forward to something you do you in your work. I know I'm lucky in this way.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: if you're not happy at work - maybe you even hate your job - then you must start looking in the evenings or weekends at retraining, getting a new skill, or finding a new place to work where you'll be happier. We spend most of our lives at work and I’ve known people crushed by their jobs - no job is worth that.
The Brit nominations were revealed last night and it's fantastic to see a few of my favourites in the pack - Dizzee Rascal, for one, in the best album category. I remember when I was on the Brit's panel about eight years ago - good times casting my votes!
Found it ironic that Madonna has supposedly claimed in the press that motherhood is the most important job she's ever done - well it seems to me (and I'm only going on how hard she works) that her ‘job satisfaction’ takes her away for extraordinary amounts of time. I'm sorry, but isn't she always jetting around the world, on tour, appearing in something, writing children's books and on and on. She seems to have a gaggle of nannies looking after her children. And there's nothing wrong with that but this doesn't sit well with her comments considering her 24-7 lifestyle. One thing I did as a mother was make many choices to give up work opportunities - that would've furthered my career - to instead be at home when my children were back from school. Yup, that was my choice but it rubs me up the wrong way when I hear women whose jobs take them away for 18-hour-days to claim that motherhood is the greatest thing ever did.
Last night had a fab time with a couple friends out for drinks at Lo Profile and on to dinner - the hubster joined us which is rare for a Monday night because he's normally training in the sport he does. Monday is the new Friday for me! But evidently not to others as the restaurant was dead. It's really weird to have all the attention of the waiter for the whole evening.
So happy that Jeff Bridges got a Golden Globe for his performance in Crazy Heart - a stunning portrayal of a down-and-out, alcoholic country-western musician.
Have a feature to write today so I'm disappearing now. Hope you're touched by something good, funny, or loving in your day, Pam X
