From the tragic to making life a little bit better...
How are the police going to piece together the tragic puzzle of Joanna Yeate's murder? It all seems so unbelievable - happily going about her business one Friday evening and then gone in a flash.
Thank God her parents have one tiny, fragile, shred of what I guess you could call 'peace of mind' as they can lay her to rest. The smallest of mercies in what will be a nightmare for the rest of their lives. I join so many people in saying my heart goes out to them in their pain.
I hope they're left in peace to grieve their beautiful duaghter so let's turn to brighter things with New Year's Eve tomorrow. I find people are split into two camps - those who love it and those who loathe it. I'm of the first type and love it and we’re heading to a party at the home of close friends. Trying to put together the right outfit is proving tough... the one thing I know I'm wearing is the most amazing shade of pink nail varnish that I was given for Christmas in a package of wonderful little treats - I can only describe it as "lilac pink" and it came from Accessorise of all places. It reminds me of a Chanel shade I treated myself to a few years ago that they no longer make.
Hope you didn't see the exhausted me on Channel 5 last night as a talking head on their "worst celebrity moments of 2010" programme...that filming was on a Friday at the end of a long week in early December with many evening events - I can't hack it when I have too many late nights!
Back to New Year's and I've written a piece about facing 2011 optimistically and will give you a heads up when it's in their national newspaper that commissioned it.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: one strategy I didn't put into that article was about creating more time just to ‘be’ - a time when you’re not rushing around doing stuff. The way we live 24/7 goes against human nature to have a bit of solitude and downtime. To make your life a little bit better give yourself at least 5-10 quiet minutes a day for some reflection.
We watched Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush in the King’s Speech last night - persevere through the first 10 minutes and then it's a delight of how Colin Firth as "Bertie" who becomes king after the abdication rises above his private pain, angst and misery. Have the tissues ready!
Today's top chill-out tunes come from Travie McCoy - an album I wouldn't normally buy but the hubby put it in my Christmas stocking and it's good background music to work to. My Christmas stocking's always an orgy of chocolate delights - the hubby tries to find exotic treats since I'm a complete chocoholic... sadly it's all been eaten!
I'll post a new "your e-mail of the week" later today so get yours in.
Enjoy the remaining hours of 2010, Pam X
