From crises to Chris Moyles...
I hope the heroics of the nuclear plant workers at Fukushima in Japan, battling to save the day, don't go unrecognised. Essentially it's a suicide mission - would you want to do it?
It's one of those ultimate questions - if you could make a difference to the outcome and perhaps save Japan and even the world from a nuclear disaster would you put your life on the line?
And now we face more action with our troops - let's hope the no-fly zone over Libya is established safely, securely and speedily.
Okay, what about the lighter side of life? Hats off to Chris Moyles and sidekick comedy Dave who are raising shed-loads of money for comic relief with the world’s longest radio show...have you texted CHRIS to 70011? Do it now!
I realise Chris has a lot of detractors but I have a slightly bizarre soft spot for him. In the morning when getting ready for work I switch between Radio 4 for the serious stuff and his Radio 1 show for the lighter stuff - yep, I know, weird listening habits!
I'm sure it's just not me who can tell he has a big heart and softer side underneath that loud, brash exterior. And, no, he's not trapped in a Japanese earthquake shelter with little food, water and where it's freezing cold but he's done a lot more for charity than many celebs.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: when you have an instant dislike for someone why not step back and try and work out why - are they really that bad or is it more about you not giving them a chance?
It's an interesting experiment to make yourself look for their good side. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Call me crazy in a recession but I’ve just turned down a weekly late-night agony slot on radio because they only offered half of what I thought they should (they say they don't have any more budget). I'd rather have a little less money and keep my sanity - I work long hours already and if I'm going to deliver a lively, thoughtful contribution late at night there should be some reasonable payoff.
I love radio but I have to keep a grip on things and not say Yes to everything that comes along... there's a fine line between working long hours and being a workaholic and I don't want to slip across it!
What a treat, yesterday I was taken to Jamie's Italian restaurant in Covent Garden by some new work colleagues...had the most delicious steamed fish with muscles and clams.
Have just posted a new "hot off the press" article - a little piece about the gains and losses when you go into a relationship...check it out on my homepage if you're in a new relationship.
I'm off until late on 29th March - hope you have a wonderful week! And I hope the world calms down and the Japanese people continue to find their strength in such dire adversity. Take care, Pam X
